How to Verify a Dating Match Is Real (Before Feelings Get Expensive)

Suspicious of someone right now? Search the free registry — phone numbers, usernames, photos. Seen a scammer? File a report in 3 minutes and protect the next person.

Every scam in our registry shares one feature: the verification that would have stopped it never happened. Not because victims were foolish — because nobody taught the ritual. Here it is, in the order that catches the most fakes with the least effort.

Step 1 — Reverse-search every photo (two minutes)

Stolen photos power most fakes, and the theft is detectable: Google Lens or TinEye on each profile photo surfaces the model, influencer, or stranger the images were lifted from. Our step-by-step guide walks it. A clean result proves little; a dirty result proves everything.

Step 2 — Search the artifacts (one minute)

Phone number, username, email — run each through the free registry and a plain web search. Scammers reuse infrastructure because burning it costs money; the number sweet-talking you may already be documented in someone else’s report.

Step 3 — The live video call (the decider)

Not a phone call — voice clones killed that test. A live video call where the face moves, answers in real time, and matches the photos. Every excuse — broken camera, military rules, rig internet, shyness that survives weeks of intimacy — is the answer arriving in costume. One refusal is caution; repeated refusal is confession.

Step 4 — The script-breaking questions

Scammers run playbooks; playbooks hate specificity. Reference something false (“you said your sister’s in Denver, right?” when they never mentioned one) and watch whether the correction is human. Ask about TODAY — weather where they are, what they cooked — verifiable, mundane, script-resistant.

Step 5 — The money tripwire (permanent)

Verification isn’t a one-time gate: the con activates weeks in. Any request for money, gift cards, crypto, “help with a fee,” or investment guidance — from anyone you haven’t met in person — is the diagnosis, regardless of how real they seemed. And receiving money to forward is the trap that makes YOU the criminal.

The registry only works if people report

Every phone number, username, and script submitted becomes searchable armor for the next person. Your report is anonymous, human-moderated, and takes about three minutes.
