Where these addresses come from
Email addresses appear in romance fraud at the points where the story needs to look official. The profile itself may never use email at all, and then a customs officer, a hospital billing department, a shipping company or an investment platform appears — each with its own address, each requiring payment to release something.
Those supporting-cast addresses are often reused across many victims, which is why they are worth recording and searching.
Look-alike domains
A common pattern is a domain that resembles a real institution with a small alteration — an extra letter, a hyphen, a different suffix. Free webmail addresses claiming to represent a bank, a government agency or a courier are another persistent signal, since legitimate institutions do not conduct official business from consumer email accounts.
When an address claims to represent an organisation, look the organisation up independently and contact it through a number or address you found yourself.
What a match means here
A reported address means someone filed a report involving it. Addresses are trivially created and freely spoofed, and the sender shown in an email header is not proof of origin. A match is a prompt to verify through an independent channel, never a substitute for doing so.
